Article Wedding Photography 7 Rules to Make Your Flower Girl Comfortable

Your word of advice will never work with those adorable little ones no matter how hard you try. The only way to make them stay the way you want is to let them be comfortable. Here are some tips to keep your flower girl at her best at all times.

Rule #1: A comfy Dress

Make sure she wears a comfortable dress. Floor length dresses make them look like fairies sent from heaven but can be a little tricky. If your flower girl is too young or if she is not used to walking in a dress so long try shortening the hemline a bit. Avoid using fabrics such as nets in any part of the dress as that might make her itchy.

During the fit on, make her wear the dress for a while and be mindful of the reactions. Do not forget that she is still a bit too small to tell what makes her uncomfortable. Make changes to the dress based on her behavior.

Rule #2: Shoe Shine

Shoes that are loose or tight will surely hurt those tiny feet. Buy shoes a little ahead of time and make the girls walk around in them a few times. This is to get the shoes adjusted but, make sure not to buy way ahead of time; the kids grow too fast.

Buckled shoes are said to be better as they keep shoes from falling off the feet, but avoid shoes and slippers with sharp straps. If the wedding venue is indoors or if the ground is smooth you may even consider letting them walk bare feet. The look is simply adorable.

A small tip on stockings, keep two pairs - just in case.

Rule #3: Don’t over use accessories

Small stud earrings with a matching thin chain and a small pendant is enough to create wonders. It’s best to keep jewelry minimal; girls look more beautiful without them anyway.

Rule #4: Princess hair

Up dos are pretty but should not be overdone. Try keeping her hair down and use flowers or a tiara to accessorize. Barrettes look cute too, and the little one would love it. Wearing her hair the everyday way will make her more at ease.

Rule #5: Never use too much make up

The little flowers still have rosy cheeks and petal like lips. So what’s the use of make up? Dab on a little lip gloss and that’s enough to take her through the day.

Oh! And why do you need a dresser for the flower girl? Ever heard of DIY? Apply the concept here, will surely save you a lot of money.

Rule #6: Calming the Jitters

Remember, this could be her first public appearance so prepare her well to face the challenge. Explain her role as the flower girl. She will be excited to be an important part of a big colorful day.

The most important thing is to let her be herself. Don’t be too nervous that she will make a mistake. Mistakes will just be too cute.

Rule #7: Timing is everything

Do not make your flower girls dress too early. If the wedding is an early morning wedding do not make her get up too early unless you expect sleeping beauty’s arrival.

Before the ceremony, make sure she uses the restroom. Then hand her the flower basket and let her lead the bride’s party, scattering flower petals along the bridal path, the way her favorite Disney princess would have done.
