Article Wedding Photography A Guide to Select Wedding Transport

A stylish wedding will never be complete without a grand entrance. It could be on a vintage car, a tandem or a horse drawn carriage, the list is endless and you aremostlikely to get lost with all the options that are there. We have listed down the main considerations that a couple must think of when deciding the method of transport.

1.  Who arrives first?

According to customs of the western world, bride's maids, flower girls and the bride's mother should arrive at the place of the wedding first, followed by the bride and the father (or the person who's giving the bride away) who should arrive short before the start of the ceremony.

In general, best men are expected to get the groom and themselves including the page boys to the wedding venue on time.

In the modern days however, these customs are not followed properly as the photographers and videographers need the whole crew far in advance to capture memories and all are expected at the wedding venue together long before the ceremony time.

2. It’s a church wedding and the reception will follow

If this is the case once the church function is finished the couple should use their wedding car to arrive at the reception venue. There should be separate vehicles to transport the wedding crew to the place of the reception. Guests are responsible for their transport, so you don't have to worry much on that, but always make sure to assign the responsibility to someone, to check on the guests in case some are left without transport.

3. Going away time

Most couples use a beautifully decorated, unique transport mode when leaving the reception venue as a just married couple. Some couples may leave for their honeymoon right after the wedding, but most couples tend to spend the night at the reception venue as many hotels are offering free rooms for the wedding night. Regardless where the couple actually spends the night, it is the tradition for them to bid goodbye to the crowd, usually in a quite special way.

4. Some Popular Options...

  1. Cars
  2. Most popular wedding cars at the moment are Rolls Royce, Vintage Austin, Daimler, Classic Bentley, Mercedes and Limos. There are many wedding car hiring companies in Sri Lanka and it is possible to hire a beautiful car at quite competitive and affordable prices. However, the more unique and branded a wedding car is, higher it will cost in reality. Therefore make sure to compare prices and find the most affordable yet elegant car that suits you and your budget. It does not matter even if it's a simple Corolla if that's all you can afford but, make sure to decorate it beautifully so that it'll no longer be quite simple.

  3. Carriages
  4. Horse driven carriages are often used as a going away mode of transport. These are very romantic and unique and could add a grand yet classical touch to the dream day. If you are planning to go for a horse carriage remember to book in advance as they are quite rare and be prepared to pay a premium for the extra uniqueness that it will bring to your wedding.

  5. Boats
  6. This is again one of the most romantic ideas that one could use to bring shine to his/her wedding. If the reception venue is near a lake or the sea try to use a boat as the method of transport at some point in time. Reception venues near the water are quite rare; therefore just get the maximum use of it to open the doors of creativity for a wedding.
