Getting Started...

1.  Selecting the photographer

Search the internet and find contact details of several photographers. Go through their website and if you like the pictures available on line make a call and contact them. E-mailing is not a suitable way to select your photographer. If you like them on the phone, short list the photographers and visit them. When looking at the samples pay attention to the technical quality of the photographs, the photographer’s communications skills and also how you emotionally feel about the photographs. If the work attracts you then discuss about the prices, deposits, packages and other information.

2. Technical considerations of samples

Look for the lighting quality of the photographs. The lighting should be smooth and natural so that the pictures would look three dimensional with no white flashy spots in the image. Check for harsh reflections that otherwise should not be there and flattened faces.

Check how the pictures are behaving at different distances. Even in groups the poses should be interesting and creative. The photographers should be able to capture natural yet beautiful moments of your wedding in almost any situation. The photos even if they are intentional should look more natural than artificial.

3. Check one album from start to finish

Make sure to look at one whole album from start to finish. A collection of photographs from various events simply contains the best pictures of the photographer. The actual work when finished at long may look quite different from the collection. If you are a Kandian bride you can look at a picture book which was done on a Kandain couple. The more closely you can match your wedding to the photographer’s sample, the more chances there are that your real wedding album would look like what was shown in the samples.

4.  Who is the real photographer?

Many professional photography studios have several photographers working for the place and you could have been talking to a different photographer or even a sales person when going through the samples. Therefore always remember to check which photographer is going to actually cover your wedding and whether the samples seen were done by him.  If not, make arrangements to meet the particular photographer who will be covering your event.

5. Approximate time spent on photography

The time spent on photography depends on your requirements. You should talk to your photographer about which areas you are planning to cover and how much time he will need to capture the event. Most photographers usually start taking portrait photos at least three hours before the wedding and will cover the whole event up to the going away of the bride.

Some families are scared that the photographer will ultimately run the wedding which happens in many cases. Just make sure to tell your requirements beforehand and if possible provide the photographer with an agenda of your wedding to keep him informed.

6. Making the photo album

Many photographers offer packages which include the number of pages in the album, number of images to be included etc. and will make the albums themselves. However, the photos to be included in the album are mostly decided by the client with the help of the photographer.

There are two types of albums in the market these days. One is the normal traditional album with a range of photographs right from the camera and the album is priced low. The other one is the story book album in which several photographs are included in one page arranged like a magazine or a story book. These albums are beautifully done and are in high demand to day despite expensive prices.
