We as Sri Lankans are blessed with one season, summer - the sun and heat all year round. Yet, towards December even we feel the snow Sri Lanka has never seen and the winter wonderland takes us over. So, why not try to incorporate this very same feeling in to your wedding? Here are some tips to plan a Winter Themed Wedding…
Wedding Colours
When we hear the word “winter” we also hear pure white Snow. So, the best color for a Winter Wedding Theme is Pure White. As snow glows in a Silvery White colour a Silver touch can be added which makes a White and Silver wedding colour scheme. Pure snow also gives the illusion of light blue. So it is also possible to go for a light blue and white colour scheme.
You may also add red, green and gold to the colour palette as winter also signifies Christmas.
Wedding Attire
In general, the bride should be dressed in a ball gown to get the snow princess look and to match the western touch of a winter wedding theme. However, if the bride prefers a sari, this can also be worn with a western sari drape.
Bride: A white gown with Silver work. The use of a velvet hooded cloak or the use of faux fur trim is also encouraged. Use silver jewelery and wear a tiara or a crown instead of a veil. Bride’s maids: White simple gowns with Silver accents. Flower girls: Long white dresses. Add wings to make them look like fairies and give them a fairy wand instead of a bouquet. Groom and Groom’s men and page boys: A white tuxedo with a silver coloured vest and bow tie.
Bouquets
An all white bouquet or a white bouquet with a silver touch is ideal.
Wedding Venue
Try to find a wedding reception site with loads of mirrors and beautiful white or silver chandeliers.
Invitations
Use ribbons, snowflakes and stars in invitations.
Wedding Decorations
Wedding Centerpieces:
Use Silver vases filled with white roses, calla lilies or even white coloured branches. Sprinkle Silver Glitter on the table. Place a mirror at the center of the table and light white candles on the mirror or place a bowl full of water on the mirror and float candles or flowers.
Venue decorations:
Bring the icy feeling inside by using ice carvings. Hang snowflakes from the ceiling. Also, if it’s possible to find white plastic Christmas trees, use 6-8 trees as a path décor. If the wedding takes place in December it’s very easy to find plastic Christmas trees in stores.
Wedding Cake
White, white and white again and again. Make a beautiful white wedding cake. Use silver snowflakes, stars etc. as accents.
These are just a few simple ideas. As we always say use your imaginations and blend your personality to create a unique winter wedding of your own.
